Delivered the keynote “From Safety to Sovereignty: Addressing Anti-Indigenous Racism in Shelter Spaces” for the Manitoba Association of Women’s Shelters Provincial & Federal Shelter Networking Symposium.
This work focused on anti-Indigenous racism, gender-based violence, trauma-informed systems, Indigenous women’s safety, cultural safety, colonial violence, and the responsibility of organizations and service systems to move beyond surface-level awareness into stronger practice.
Lisa also facilitated two breakout sessions following the keynote, supporting participants to reflect more deeply on the issues raised and connect the learning to frontline work, leadership responsibility, service delivery, policy, and organizational change.
The keynote and breakout sessions supported provincial and federally connected service providers, shelter workers, leadership, and frontline organizations to examine how systems impact Indigenous women, families, and communities and what safer, more accountable practice can look like in real service settings.
