Fire Evacuee Support — Winnipeg, Regina & Weyburn

Provided support connected to Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation fire evacuees during the summer 2025 wildfire displacement response. This work included crisis support, emotional support, systems navigation, advocacy, coordination, and practical assistance for community members displaced from home.

In Winnipeg, coordinated with the Manitoba Harm Reduction Network to support a community-based harm reduction response for First Nations fire evacuees staying in evacuation centres. This included helping coordinate harm reduction supports, connecting with frontline networks, and supporting cultural wellness through drumming and community-based cultural supports at evacuation sites.

This work reflected the importance of practical crisis response, harm reduction, cultural support, systems navigation, and coordinated community care during emergency displacement.
